Silicon carbide is fine, the silica is bonded to carbon, so the dust is not like free silica. That is why it is used widely including the grip tape on your skateboard. Aluminum oxide also works, but it static clings to your piece as you work and it doesn't expose sharp cutting edges as it breaks down as well. This stuff is not cheap ($1.80-$3.50/lb), but it recycles well so it goes along way. 120-150 grit is a good start. Unless you want a real smooth etch then 220 or higher.

anyone have solutions to constantly clogging gun ? Losing pressure in the gun ? We are struggling with that aspect of sandblasting..is it all in the grit you use ? Thanks for response !

Grit size usually isn't an issue unless your abrasive is getting old and extremely fine. If your not using a water/oil trap in your line of compressed air, that might help. Or try two if you already have one.. I use 3 total. You can get cheap ones from $15 on up to $150+ for a nice one. It sounds like your running a siphon style blaster which may be the cause altogether. If that's the case, and your really into blasting look into getting a direct pressure system.

we use 120.. Live in the Idaho deserts so moisture isn't a problem but it's super important that you keep your tips clean... Loosing pressure is prob a compressor issue if you start good & loose pressure after a few minutes your compressor is not keeping up. If you're loosing pressure almost immediately check the regulator on your compressor.
