(Ventillation)

$50 can save lives... ***my old shop***
this is a post for any newbies or anyone one who says that they cant afford a vent hood for their shop. this ghetto ass setup consists of three sheets(4x8) alluminum lined insulation board at $12 bucks each, and 2 big ass rolls of duct tape at $7. so the whole thing winds up costing $50. the back wall is slanted to increase airflow and it has a standard trapezoidal hood, that is infact all held together with duct tape. i screwed up some wood to hang a floro light inside, and theres 6 screws on each side holding it to the table. all seams are sealed with the duct tape (inside and out). i did spend about $100 on the fan, its a 1500cfm 8in. flow pro that i orderded online somewhere. the standard attic vent fan from home depot(or wherever) is 14 in. and runs 1500cfm also, but that one wouldnt fit in my tiny basement window. anyway, so there you go...

tank-grade
yeah, that metal tape is made for making heating ducts air tight and all that, doubled or tripled up on a clean surface and it's all set.

Metal tape, Liquid oxy
LOL, what do you all think where made of money....
two good sugestions, though, and if one can afford yes go with the upgrades. as for me i dont use the liquid fast eneugh to keep it from bleeding away...and im too cheap to get the good tape

Sol
heres the math..if you use 3 tanks a week....
say 60 bucks a week,so 240 a month easy....and you get 12 tanks. with the liquid...delivered,and filled for 120-160 plus deposit, you get 19-22 tanks equivelent,d-e-l-i-v-e-r-e-d so none of your time is spent drivin around with an explosive..or gas money..i dont know how far it is to the oxy place for you but its 4 miles or so for me. anyway, it only bleeds 3% a day IF and i stress IF you dont use it at all, if you use it for even 3 hours a day it wont bleed till 24 hours later, if you have a large torch theese numbers are smaller...hope that helps

carried away
it seem like goat, and sol are taking this too seriously.
first to goat, yes you can "find supplies", hell thats how all our old ramps where built. but, i happen to like duct tape, i have used the metal tape on several past studios ive had, and like i said it is better(and more expensive), but my point was to be cheap. that and i just like duct tape, and i only spent maybe 1 hour the other day fixing it, and its been up for more than three months.
now to sol, like i said liquid is better, but in my case... my k's are delivered, and never do i use more than 2 a week(on a pm2d). my total oxy bill is $144 a month, liquid is the same price($140), plus a $30 rental fee assesed monthly. so i choose to pay for what i use, not the other 11-14 tanks that would bleed off. its also much easier to lug a k down a flight of wooden stairs(basement shop) than that 750 pound liquid. sure i could leave it outside but who wants to go out in the ny winter to turn it on, and in the summer it will bleed off even quicker...
thanks for thinking off me though...
but i think im allright, just trying to help out a newbie or two from no hood for lack of ingenuity...

aluminum

AJ
"polyisocyanurate foil faced foamboard"
just ask, they all carry it... it comes in 4'x8' sheets, and several thicknesses. i used the 3/4", so its a bit sturdier, and can hold up its own weight. most home depots carry the brand R-MAX. the one i found this time was called ENERGY SHEILD, but its the same shit...
hope that helps wonka...
