Got Nug? A revolutionary snowboard needs to look revolutionary, so when Burton Snowboards needed a design for their amazing new NUG, they came to Bern Glass. Our artists Tito, Jonny K., and Matt Gibson busted it out and what you see here is the very first glass snowboard collab. It features a blown up section of fume work done in-house at The Bern Gallery, and has been carefully constructed by the masters at Burton so it rides as sick as it looks!

The Pipe Classic is and internationally recognized glass-blowing competition, which features the talents of 12 of the nations best glass artists. This is the original premiere event in the glass industry and its held right here in Burlington. Our competition differentiates its-self from all others in that each artist MUST use a functioning pipe as his or her canvas. These artists begin their pieces from scratch so that all guest and judges can truly see the piece come together from beginning to end. Each artist has 12 hours to complete their pipe, and it must be made in Bern Gallery venues. This years Pipe Classic runs from September 13th-18th and encompasses five 13-hour days of glassblowing capped off by a judging party at The Green Room. We sell 100 judges passes and let these 100 people choose each year’s winner. So Get your Judges pass today! 802.865.0994 or you can buy them online at www.pipeclassic.com or at glasspipes.org under the "other" in the marketplace!

Austin should be very proud! M.E. is officially the first Pipe Classic competitor to win both First Place AND the honor of glassblowers’ choice. But this was not the only first – There were naked women in the gallery, an actual functioning guitar as a competitor’s entry and the most amout of work ever completed by one competitor in the 12 hours allotted. The Bern Gallery would like to thank Willy & Wally from Glass Torch Technologies. They have far surpassed any previous level of sponsorship. This year’s donation exceeded $10,000 in prizes and without them there would be no Pipe Classic. PIPE CLASSIC 5 RESULTS 1st- M.E.-Austin, TX **GTT Delta Mag** 2nd- Nate Dizzle- Seattle, WA. **GTT Kobuki** 3rd- Zach Puchowitz- Philadelphia, PA **GTT Mirage** 4th- Kristian Merwin- Salt lake **GTT Scorpion** Glass blowers choice- M.E. Another person who makes The Pipe Classic an event to remember is Big Mike. His support for this event and the competitors involved is simply unparalleled. Sponsor support has never been stronger!! A HUGE “thank you” goes out to all of this year’s sponsors. SPONSORS: Glass Torch Technologies Big Mikes House of Glass Toke City Borosyndicate Productions Hitman Glass Project Exposure Magazine 802 Snowboards UST Glass The Green Room Wale Apparatus Paragon Industries Switchback Brewing CO. Vapor Brothers Northstar Glassworks Humble Screen Printing Epic Smoke Tobacco Paisley Moon Bern Glass Manhattan Pizza and Pub Visionary Supply Bite Me Pizza As some may know, a Pipe Classic 5 competitor’s house burned down just before this year’s competition. Although nothing can replace the loss from a tragedy like this, Kurt B, B3nj4m1n, Hickory, and Sarah C. made a collab during The Classic and donated it to the auction. Borosyndicate, a Pipe Classic 5 sponsor, also bought this competitor an airplane ticket at the last miniute. It was great to see the love in our industry when it’s needed most. Bern Gallery would also like to thank all of this year’s competitors, Kurt B., Eron Ziel, Aaron Sokol, Project Exposure Magazine, The Pipe Classic committee and all of this year’s judges. As always, NOTSOX productions is producing a movie of Pipe Classic 5. Look for it on sale in 2011. Pipe Classic's 3 and 4 dvd's are on sale now at www.pipeclassic.com! If you would like to be a competitor in a future Pipe Classic, please send your contact info and photos of your work to The Bern Gallery. Philly is strong. First place in 2 out of the last 4 Bern Gallery Pipe Classics. Snic won first place with an amazing piece pulled off in the final heat, but everyone’s piece was equally as impressive as they were different. Will another city every prove to be as strong as the years go on?
This year Glass Torch Technologies stepped up their donation yet again, totaling over $10,000 in torches. Without GTT, Pipe Classic wouldn’t be the same.

We thought it would be fun to have a pipe making competition judged by the people. So we did... Each artist had 12 hours to complete a functional pipe. 6 hours on day one and 6 on day two. Any cold working had to be performed in the 12 hour period. The only rules were that the entire piece had to be made on Bern Gallery grounds, finished in 12 hours and made from scratch.
The artists were: G.E. Elijah Schwartz Kurt B. Marbleslinger Mr. Gray B3NJ4M1N Jason "Live Free" Gordon Willow Quinn B.C.... Hastings JAG
All 12 pieces were displayed anonymously and voted on by 100 judges. Each judge could only vote once and for 1 piece.
Results:
Glass... choice----1st-Kurt B.
Judges choice 1st-Jason "Live Free" Gordon 2nd-Kurt B. 3rd-Mr. Gray 4th-Elijah Schwartz
A big THANK YOU to the sponsors:
Glass Torch Technologies Glass Alchemy Northstar Momka's Glass Dichro Alchemy Menzies Tools The Flow Magazine Philips Eyewear Wale Apparatus Royal River Tecnolux Merriam Graves Plan B
Thanks also to Kris Gardner and Marblesinger for pics and documentation. The Pipe Classic will be held every year in early September and will always be a true celebration of pipe making.

Ok So what we have here is so in action shots of the making of our new rather large masterpiece.. this piece has somewhere in the vacinity of 250 hours flame time.. between 4 glass blowers... Eli s.. the sculpting genius who made yoda and darth vader head.. absolutely the sickest parts of this whole piece.. then we have Tito , jon, and jason gordon "live free" who made the 50+ section double bubbler, and the plasma attachments.. this piece has uncountable hours of thought time incorporated into it.. seen as I have been dreaming up this pipe for almost 3 years now.. if not more.. this is by far the biggest piece of art i have ever worked on..thanx to all who worked on this and made it a reality.. you will all have to wait to see this thing glowing for it is in route to be filled... so thanx for looking and definately keep your eyes out for the final pics.... and a big thanx to jason lee, marcel, ease, steve gelb, and so many more for opening the grounds to go bigger and bigger..
