Flock of Locks

Flock of Locks

After some practice pieces I feel I have got the hang of the sherlock shape I am after. Its such a fun to shape to create, the slightest variance gives the piece a personality of its own. I prefer the "chubby" look above all. These were highly inspired by the sherlocks of J.Lee that have had me drooling for years. I think I speak for all of us lampers when I say he has made such an impact on this scene with his amazing work, that I could not imagine what pipemaking would be without his contributions. Thanks to all you great inovaters and master pipemakers who continue to fill my dreams with possibilities.

Scenic Sea Turtle Slide

Scenic Sea Turtle Slide

After a long day of digging holes and laying eggs on the beach the sea turtles return to ocean only to be greeted by hungry great whites.

This turtle scene was inspired by a paperweight by Jesse Taj and the addition of the sharks was inspired by days of watching shark week. Murrine made by Dave Strobel. Thanks Dave, don't know what I'd do without ya.

sherlies

sherlies

I have always been a huge fan of the classic sherlock shape and recently directed my focus on working on the shape. The black/rainbow pieces were my practice run and the focus was strictly on form. They grey/blue one was planned out r-ball by r-ball and I'm very stoked on the end result. I'll definitely be re-visiting this shape often. Thanks for looking

chaotic

chaotic

I am a big fan of AK's glass and really enjoy using murrine so I tried a few of the chaotic style pieces. It's alot different from my usual reversal work. It was a nice break from the day to day production. I just went at these with a pile of milli chips and odd twisty canes, no real plan on what i was making or what they would look like when finished. They were hard to photograph but I like how they came out and most importantly I had a blast making them.

reptile paperweights

my first go at sculpting creatures. i did these and several others over the 05 holidays. the red toad ended up costing me over $250 to make. when gathering for his body, i slipped and mashed him against the front of my tiger shark. Bethlehem charged me for two hours of labor at $125/hr to unclog the holes. i was f'n pissed. my rage came through in the finished product. its one evil lookin toad.

Yo!
Hey, are you and Robbie going to make it to "Urban Carnival" this Saturday? We've got artwork from several glass artists, and I'm doing a display of an all-amber piece. I see you've been doing a lot of work with the amber tubing too, I've got some tech questions if you've got some time. Hope you can make it to the art show/carnival. If you want directions, go to studio980-dot-com.

I haven't lived in GA in years. My mother lives on St. Simons Isl. I think my sister just moved to Albany from Tifton. I'm not sure. I think I'm going to Langarado, if you're going, we should hook up. Or maybe the next time I'm in GA.

Are you the Albany artist?
I'm trying to find the glassblower from Albany GA. I am going to be in Cordele September 8th for my sisters wedding. After that I was planning to go to the Tampa area to work for a week. I would love to stop in Albany and check you out too. If you are the man I'm looking for please contact me as soon as possible so that I can solidify my travel plans.
