it's just a piece,it says tribute..not a jab or stab, or making fun. shea,, YOU brought that element to this post. everyone sees it so different..and that is what makes it a good piece..last time i checked being a pimp around here, was a good thing...mike fro kicks ass,, he is one of the best pipers, and one of the best known. so the only thing marring this presentation is bad attitude and threats. the ball is in the public court..the piece is mostly about the form..a featured piece of mike's,,( that i nominated for the feature) the text and image are just a small touch..it causes a stir, it's art,that is my statement.

yes there are pieces for making a living and there are pieces that are art. the piece bearclaw posted here is a piece of art, it has nothing to do with prodo headies and bread and butter work. how this piece of art is backstabbing to you, you might as well explain to me and all of us, since it was you who brought this to a public forum. reality is reality and i know all about making a living off this shit, i too have been doing it for ten years,,,,, i dont know if that jab about work being taxed was aimed at me, but if it was, im curious to know who you talked to, as i havent sold any stores in the USA glass since 2002.

ok, i have no idea what's going on behind the scenes... the shaping's awesome on this piece, JP and bearclaw kick ass, and glass art/work is a touchy buisiness these days... i think in reguards to the money/business aspect, i think we all want to 'keep it real' and make stuff that's awesome, representative, and affordable by people who will actually appreciate the pieces, but make lotsa money at the same time. the undercutting/overpricing bullshit is a direct result of the rediculous amount of rediculously good glassworkers out there these days, devided by the number of willing/able customers. LOOK AT THIS FRIKKIN SITE!!! obviously prices are going to come down with this many options... it's called competition, not that you have to compete on purpose, but that's what it comes down to. people are going to lose a level of appreciation when it becomes this commonplace. glass is no longer as mysterious in the eye of the public.... not to mention that everyone and there dog wants to learn to blow glass. there are so many little things that contribute to this and it's only going to get harder for us. i'm seriously starting to consider making glass only for the enjoyment of it.
i could go on for pages, but my thoughts are so jumbled on this subject.....

Nice one bearclaw.... I am gonna call out tho... just like Pakoh made the "Don't be a Dick" marble- it was only the man's name... right???? There was no other underlying message going on....:p Maybe I'm wrong, but I will say that the first interpretation I had of this piece was a clever dis on Mike just like Pakoh's piece was a clever dis on Cheney. I have a hard time believing you didn't expect this to cause a stir... And to be clear- I see that as art... nothing bad. People have opinions and they differ from person to person- fact is we do NOT all get along but we don't need to let other people's shit affect us either. We all reap what we sow so whatever biz bullshit is going on behind the scenes will work itself out naturally REGARDLESS of this piece. Shea I think you need to chill, but at the same time I interpreted the message of this piece as you did I so can understand your reaction to a degree. My suggestion is to let it go and move on with your biz just like everyone else should too. Glad to see things have settled on here a bit, I have always thought that the best way to be an Artist is to let your work speak for you, and for me the same goes for business.
