Smoking Goddess by Banjo. Historically, much of the purpose to be found in a functional piece of art obviously came from the function itself. A craftsman is not usually expected to provide esoteric justifications in support of his or her work and in theory; even the most exquisitely crafted guitar should be more enjoyable to listen to than to look at. The Function delivers the statement. The trend of treating a glass pipe primarily as a piece of art and secondarily as a utilitarian device can be considered a relatively recent phenomenon and this shift from function to form is evidence that our collective voice as a movement is maturing. More and more people are buying these"art glass pipes" with no intention of using them. Many years of intensive "Schooling" has given us a profoundly deep reservoir of technical skill, and the yearning to use these skills to express our deeper emotions is becoming stronger with every day.
