GritCityInc. presents to you the second volume in the "Smoked" series.
Smoked Volume 1 was created as a platform for glass pipe blowers to reach a broader market and connect with a more main stream audience while bringing the art of pipe blowing and the contemporary glass pipe movement into the spotlight.
Volume 1 was a great success due to the participation of the blowers, our sponsors and all the loyal fans who supported the project from day 1. We are working to make Volume 2 even better than the first.
We have decided to step up the game this year with a larger format hardback book for Volume 2. Our team of talented writers, designers and photographers will surely make you say “I have-to-have” this book. Volume 2 will consists of over 200 pages of beautiful color photographs, more in-depth interviews with each artist, essays and interviews with industry leading color and tool manufacturers as well as a few surprises we have up our sleeves.

The fertility doll which originates from Ghana but can be found in many other African countries in western Africa, is given to a tribal woman who is wanting to become pregnant. The doll is carried by the wishful woman and is cared for as if it were an actual baby while she is waiting for conception to occur. The women carries the doll and treats it like a real child, dressing it up, adorning it with jewelry and putting it to bed. Once birth is achieved the doll will be handed down to the child who will receive the fertility doll as a toy which in turns teaches the child how to cares for a young baby.
My version of the doll is amercanized but i thought it would be fun to make and give it a twist.

Ala is a goddess of the Ibo, African people of eastern Nigeria. The daughter of the great god Chuku, she is the mother goddess of the earth, ruler of the underworld, guardian of the harvest, and goddess of fertility for both people and animals.
According to Ibo beliefs, Ala makes a child grow within its mother's womb. She remains near and watches over the child as the child grows into an adult. Later when the individual dies, Ala receives him or her into her womb, known as the pocket of Ala. The goddess is also a lawgiver who shows people how to live a good life. Her laws emphasize moral values such as honesty.
Throughout the Ibo region, Ala is worshiped in large square houses with open sides. These structures, called Mbari, contain life-sized mud figures of the goddess painted in bright colors. Usually, Ala is surrounded by sculptures...

This is a piece that was inspired by the honeycomb originally.By the time i was through there wasn't even one on the piece. As you can tell there is many props i have to give on the design of the piece first is robert mickelsen for his organism series and how they are put together by many sperate parts.I used that to make it more user friendly. Two is banjo and for takin pipes into sculpture.Three is for smiley for teaching me,and four for Slinger who influced me to do this piece.
