"HOLY MACKEREL!"

"HOLY MACKEREL!"

That (and I quote) is what Les Claypool said when I gave him this piece! Getting a chance to give it to him was almost as challenging as making it!! After an excellent show in Denver, I finally got the chance to meet one of my favorite musicians, and to bestow upon him this artwork. For you glass purists, I know you'll be disappointed to find that the sculptures on this pipe are made of polymer clay(fimo). It was a tough decision, but I like mixed media, and I also beleive that Les is pretty into clay(mation). The glass colors are supposed to represent cheese- get it? I used a real brass treble hook, wire for the rod, and flexible bead cord for the line. Many hours of planning and sweating it out in front of the torch (and in the mosh pit) went into this work of art. I have left the naming up to Les...

Barrete and Bracelet Pipes

Barrete and Bracelet Pipes

A friend asked me to make her a hidden barrete pipe last year so she could travel with it on the airplane and use it wherever. She cleaned it out before her trip back home. I thought it was such a good idea, I had to make more-then I had the idea for the bracelet pipe. Both are a little awkward to use and have the tiniest bowls ever! But, they are just for special situations anyway- like when you can't sneak a pipe into a show!! It's also quite exciting to reply to someone's compliment of "pretty bracelet" with "it's a pipe!" and see their reaction! These have now become a large part of my production since 2007.

Whippy tube/ Flippy tube

Whippy tube/ Flippy tube

I am always amused by the silly names glassblowers come up with to describe/sell their work. It usually makes me smile; it's only when people start to take them SO seriously that I get annoyed. So, in the spirit of silliness, I give you the whippy tube and flippy tube!! My good friend, Michelle, helped me come up with the names. To anyone who has done these styles before, post a comment about what your name for it was. Thanks!!

Pretty prodo.

Pretty prodo.

Yes, I know prodo isn't looked upon to kindly here, but these peices are fun. And, I want to give some perspecive on what I do most of the time. Even though I look at prodo as my job, it's still a more fun and creative job than most people have. I am greatful for that every day- even when I feel down because I may not be as expressive as I want all the time. The regular colored rose bowls are now being produced by my talented apprentice, The Craw! Big ups to her- she's saving my sanity and making me so proud!

Pyrie is now Corn-cob Piper

Pyrie is now Corn-cob Piper

That pseudonym never really fit me. Sure, I may be an irie-eyed pyro, but it's time to start expressing myself here. I would never ask anyone to call me "Pyrie", nor would they. I have, however, been called by MANY corn-related nicknames(based off Corinne). To celebrate this decision, I am posting some personal pictures from the past year. It's been a crazy journey. I have had a lot of fun and learned so much about life and about myself. Hopefully the calm of winter will allow me to put some of these new ideas into my art.....

I have been working glass since 1998, professionally since 2001. Mostly I do huge production orders for a distributor-it's a decent job. Sometimes, I get a chance to have fun and make some cool stuff. I believe the goal of any artist is self-expression; and this is the goal I am trying to work toward. Life, art, nature, and music are my main sources of inspiration. Thanks for looking:)

Thanks for the plane comment... I see by your work that you appreciate creativity. The bracelet pipes are a sweet idea. It must have felt awesome to present a piece to Les and to know that it is sitting on his mantle. Nice work, and thanks again. I am trying to break the prodo mold, too... Jay
