This february('07) was my first trip to a champs show. It's about time-considering I have been making pipes for almost 10 years now!! I was blown away by tons of cool stuff I saw. On a side trip, I had the awesome opportunity to go to Still Smokin' ( a las vegas head shop-the best actually) with Lisa (of lisa's pieces) to watch her work on finishing a sick-ass full figured giraffe pipe! We were there for hours, but it was awesome to chill there because they have massage chairs and crazy dj's-and of course, some awesome glass to look at! Anyway, champs was really inspiring in lots of ways. I think I will go again soon!

2005- hamm made a giant crazy spoon on the lathe, getting cut off very close to the end. He didnt get to finish the mouthpiece and was disqualified from the competition- much to the dismay of all the spectators!
2006-pakoh and marbleslinger made a hammer(pipe by slinger) and a glass hammer (pakoh) and smashed the two together and melted it. This project WAS accepted into the competition and even won a prize!! It was quite exciting, but I didn't get any pictures. look at chris carlson's gallery for a bunch of good ones. Also, nate-dizz made some cool pieces with sherlock shaped components inside them-in which his pendant took first prize for wearables!

2006-chicago(fist annual) well, having attended three egs flame-offs, I wasn't aware pipes were allowed in this competition. I was pleasantly surprised, but I didn't come prepared to make a pipe- maybe this year. Lisa (of lisa's peices) made a giraffe-neck pipe that won first prize!! Roze (who works so hard to organize this event) made a really cool lizard pipe. There was a table for selling our art, and there were some cool pipes on it!

I have been working glass since 1998, professionally since 2001. Mostly I do huge production orders for a distributor-it's a decent job. Sometimes, I get a chance to have fun and make some cool stuff. I believe the goal of any artist is self-expression; and this is the goal I am trying to work toward. Life, art, nature, and music are my main sources of inspiration. Thanks for looking:)
