(Glass Bubblers)

"HOLY MACKEREL!" That (and I quote) is what Les Claypool said when I gave him this piece! Getting a chance to give it to him was almost as challenging as making it!! After an excellent show in Denver, I finally got the chance to meet one of my favorite musicians, and to bestow upon him this artwork. For you glass purists, I know you'll be disappointed to find that the sculptures on this pipe are made of polymer clay(fimo). It was a tough decision, but I like mixed media, and I also beleive that Les is pretty into clay(mation). The glass colors are supposed to represent cheese- get it? I used a real brass treble hook, wire for the rod, and flexible bead cord for the line. Many hours of planning and sweating it out in front of the torch (and in the mosh pit) went into this work of art. I have left the naming up to Les...

I have been working glass since 1998, professionally since 2001. Mostly I do huge production orders for a distributor-it's a decent job. Sometimes, I get a chance to have fun and make some cool stuff. I believe the goal of any artist is self-expression; and this is the goal I am trying to work toward. Life, art, nature, and music are my main sources of inspiration. Thanks for looking:)

Corn-cob Piper
thanks everyone!
it sure was fun making this piece! to answer your question- I had to uv glue the clay on. Unfortunately, glass is the number one thing fimo will NOT stick to. Thanks for the feature- and all the flattering comments. By the way, Les didn't hook me up with anything besides that pic- that's all I wanted- and to make someone smile who is such an inspiration to me.

Your work is awesome!!! I think its great you gifted this one. I like the fact you mixed the media. Its not about the glass but about the idea. Good looks!!!! -joe-

Update:
I just talked to Les on tuesday night, after his show in Fort Collins. He told me he still has this piece on his desk, but he doesn't use it. He calls it "John the Fisherman" and looks at it almost every day!!! I practically fainted when I heard this!!!!!!!!
