Beginner, I just got my first set, haven't had any instruction, Trying to get any help available. I have a huge problem with running my torch at the proper heat and I haven't really figured much out at all. Most of what I have made so far has cracked either in progress or very shortly there after (like sitting on the table)

This piece comes from 2 dead waterpipes from the 90s, 1 dead sidecar from 07 and a female join broken of a diffuser, I attached the sidecars mouthpiece to the stem where it used to meet the can, then I attached the female joint to the mouthpiece/stem combo, I then flared the stem so it could be welded to the dead waterpipes, Then I wleded the two waterpipes and closed one end, attached the stem piece and viola my first bubble, I believe it's stemless even though it has a detachable bowl piece...

Practiced with marbles, I attempted a couple techniques but mostly just free styled them. I know they are crap for shape I use a table mounted teaspoon for my marble mold. and for some reason I had a few cracks even with my kiln...Probably didn't cook my color in enough

Hey Ben
If you're really interested in some advice, I'd be happy to give some...but it would likely take up more space than I have to post on here. Feel free to use the "contact me" page on my website (addy is in my profile on this site) and we can email back and forth (or even get on AIM sometime.) Also, I noticed that Nitsuj posted a link to the GLDG on one of your pages. DEFINITELY check it out....best glass resource online if you ask me! Good luck!

Hi Ben
One good way to test colors for compatiblity is to melt 2 small rods into eachother, pull it into a stringer. If the stringer bows, chances are the colors will not work well together. Expanding and contracting at different rates. Good luck.

heat
think of the piece az awhole alwayz if you r working a small part of it just consider how hot/cold the remainder iz, try this blow glass in the dark(turn off all other lightz except the torch) and look for that red glow in the glass-even in clear... and consider how long it takes for that red glow to fade and how fast it comes back when you flash it(blast it with the flame) good luck yo!

az far az table cracking goes
you need a kiln to kiln all your work, otherwise try vermiculite. glass needz too cool down slow and even the table just dosnt cut it

as far as your marbles crackin you may not be using colors that work!!!!!! aint that the shits man not all the colors work for every application. ask around about colors people including myself will tell you what to stay away from for what applications they will work for etc etc.... as always good luck man and keep it hot!!!!
