"-The Stone Man- represents an opening from the physical world to the archetypal or spiritual world and therefore in itself in a certain sense a manifistation of visionary language. The Stone Man himself- with his upraised arms, with his listening ears, with his heart line, with his nakedness- is premordial man, man transmuted, man open to the visionary world. He is made of rocks, the fundament of creation, its coagulated substance; and yet he is also visionary reality, not at all merely a physical monument but an entry point into the imaginal or spirit world"
from the book Sacred Earth:The Spiritual Landscape of Native America
While visiting a buddy in Tahoe I had a chance to take some photos of this piece. One of the first in the archetype series.
Thanks!

"This Aztec goddess whos name means "Jade Skirt" was matron of lakes and streams. A personification of youthful beauty and ardour, Chulchiuhtlicue was represented as a river from which grew a prickly pear tree laden with fruit symbolishing the human heart. She ruled over all waters of the earth but also is associated with marriage. She unleashed the flood(to punish the wicked) that destroyed the fourth world".
One of the oldest pipes discoverd was Aztec and dated over 4000 years old.

I recently had the pleasure of working at Clinton`s one of the most talented glass artists on this planet. I spent a little over two weeks soaking up as much info and amazing energy as I could. Here are some of the pieces I created during that period. Thank you Clinton and Cassidy for being such gracious hosts and friends.
"The River goddess" piece was a six day project the final day being 18 hours. Her body was formed from one large hollow section. The grass fronds are multiple layers of two different color powders masked and sanblasted to achieve its final texture and color.
Clinton is currently offering private workshops at his home studio near Corvallis Or.. In my opinion I would say anyone who has a chance to take advantage of this opportunity do it!!! It truly is a once in a life time experience. You can contact Clinton thru his myspace page at Clinton Roman on Myspace.com Peace, Bishop

At the beginning it seems there were two sacred creatures running around together, arguing, planning, constructing, taking apart, disagreeing, and making a universe. K'odojape and Wepam wajsy, Earthmaker and Coyote Old Man, they quarrel like lovers-but there's a little bit more to it than just kvetching between friends.
And the two find a bit of land floating, stretch it, form it, visualizing what it could become. Then these two sacred goofy buddies come up with the idea of "many creatures" and specific habitat for each. They pick a "little creature" out of somewhere, and make a plan that when this little guy gets big enough, the he's and she's will have names for things and they'll have a "country". These are the humans. And there are songs. Earthmaker gives them to all beings:
Based on a Maidu creation belief and Gary Snyders book "Back on The Fire" "Coyote" Trickster, was featured in Smoked Vol.1.

Earthmaker and Coyote step together thru a dialect, a dialog, of ideal and real, with sinewy final resolution that takes the world as it is. Even as Earthmaker hopes for a universe without pain or death, Coyote argues for impermanence, for things as they are. As Earthmaker fantasizes a world in which unmarried girls remain virgins and married couples remain celibate, Coyote calls for tickling, lovemaking, and whispering to each other. Earthmaker has a plan for immortality; Coyote insists that there be death. Coyote wins out, and earthmaker wanders off, to reamain in isolation somewhere "down below". Coyote goes on to finish defining the world that is our present reality. Earthmaker proposes an ideal; Coyote presents the phenomenal. For a spell Earthmaker and Coyote shape the world almost as partners. And finally, Coyote attends to a world totally phenomenal, yet one that is fluid, Shape shifting, role playing, painful and dirty, but also cherfully transcended.

These are the pieces I made while I was in Japan visiting friends or during workshops. Some of them are collabs between various Japanese lampworkers and myself. Much love and respect to all of my family in Japan pushing the limits.

Shaman, Sage, Mistic, Prophet, he has many names in many cultures. This archetype is deeply rooted in our conscious. In this peice I have tried to evoke shamanistic energy into this classic form. It is an honor to carry on our ancient tradition as pipe makers, which dates back at least 4000 years.
