Some pics from the Eli/Ease/Gasp workshop at Buttermilk Studios. Some interesting large scale demos were pulled off sucessfully. The crew was already rich with pipe making experience, so tips were shared full circle and plenty of successful end products showed up monday morning. keep an eye out for the spring buttermilk schedule in the upcoming months. Buttermilk studios can be reached @ 607-316-1455 A special thanks to Northstar color, Dichro alchemy, living glassworks, whoopzip and anyone else who help make this happen. sg

Here at Buttermilk, when were not blowing glass, were hiking in the state park out our studio front door. We have been spotting some cliffs with nice landings for a while,(riding goes hand in hand with working around here) today was sunny and we skipped out of work for a while for a little powder hounding! some shots of frito and steve gelb feb. 2004...and you thought buttermilk was only fun in the summer...

Late night collab at Buttermilk one night after the emilio wrkshop...Live Free J's "pipe in a pig" concept...A working piggy bank with a working full size worked dry piece inside, along with glass coins with each participants signature inside, fritos sits nicely halfway in the hole. signed cash and coins too. These freaks worked on this until 4am! Live Free designs, Frito, KXB, Bon... Jeh glass. This thing is the size of a football... You guys are nuts. SG.

The disco tube...Thanks to JP Chris's project got finshed!(thanks man it couldn't have been done without you!) He went through hell and back getting help from me and JP to get this piece done...It was to large for me to get a foot on to, so Chris contracted the skills of JP for a sweet lathe spun bottom half and base. All sand-blasted deigns were made by chris roesinger...I helped mask and blast it...whew...needless to say, Chris was happy to see his project finished! sorry I dont have better pics.

Chris Roesinger and I spent yesterday trying to put together a mammoth hand spun tube. I have made a few pretty good sized tubes in the past, but this exceeded anything I have tried. 20+ high was no problem, but trying to do a large(200mm) base off of rollers...just was not happening...after about 8 hours and a burnt face, I surrendered to the flow, tore the base off and went home. Many, many props to the big hitters of tube making on lathes(JP, Bonz, and KXB) to name a few...this stuffs out of my league...hopefully this project will get finished with the help of some lathe master...Peace-Steve

My name is Steve Gelb. I began working with glass full time in 1995 in the Pocono's PA. Since 1996 I have been living in the hills just outside Ithaca NY and keeping a studio with a few great friends in the city of Ithaca. Some of my biggest inspiration has been music, poetry and the work of my mentors and peers including but not limited to (in no specific order) Aaron F, Joey G, Ezra, Ease, Eli, George Kennard, Emilo Santini, Eric Sussman, Huck, Frito, Sean, Jesse, kxb, Jason Lee, Banjo, Robert mickelsen, Drew, and countless others on and off of this website. I am currently in school, but spend most of my time on the torch. when I'm not in class, I am filling custom and wholesale orders. One-on-one and group workshops of all levels are welcome at Buttermilk studios. Rental time is also availabe. Thanks for checking out my gallerys everyone, much love. Steve
