Functional Character Evolution 2007-present

So there has been a huge push in recent years towards functional characters in glass. I thought it would be fun to post a photo evolution of Merc's functional characters from 2007 to present. We really didn't start posting Merc's work until 2008 so unfortunately there are many characters not present in this stream. Hugely influenced by fantasy, psychedelic, skateboard, and visionary arts Merc created these characters through the years.

Jah don't pay the bills

This piece was made from hand pulled tubing made by myself. The percolated bubbler is 16 hollow sections,10 solid latti horns and 1 marble. It had been a long time since I made a rasta influenced piece and it was fun. I am influenced by the rasta culture and way of thinking in my way of life which made this one of my favorite projects in a bit. This piece along with many more will be on display at AGE in the Four Winds Flameworks room Feb 19-22. Come check out more of me and my wife Shelahbears' work. Much love to all for looking Jah Rastafari.

horned luster set

wanted to try out adding a few bigger horns. its hard, so crucial to get a really gradual taper. hadn't touched purple luster in ages, shame on me

minibling

Ive been having trouble shaping my bubs for a while now. So I tried making a miniature version of what i had in mind. I may be hooked on making mini, but fully well functioning pieces. This bub stands at 5 1/2" and was 26 sections, dbl and single layer mixed in. the green was an older clover vac stack end and the other sections were various pulls of mine i thought would work together. Also added a few mini drys
