Sketching out your ideas first...

Sketching out your ideas first...

It all starts with an idea...I'm a very visual and organized person. I like to know where I am going and how I am going to get there - and I always leave some play for the inevitable spontaneous idea...

It was discussed a while back (in the forum) about drawing out ideas before blowing...not always a must for me, but here a few sketches when I did draw first...

How-to: Anneal your glass

How-to: Anneal your glass

(NoDFX)
Here is something every glassblower should have in the their shop - an annealing chart. It's a great place to start if you aren't sure about annealing cycles, but remember, it's just a place to start. Adjust according to your working style and colors used frequently.

Email me if you have questions. Poorly annealed glass reflects poorly on all of us.

***my old shop***
this is a post for any newbies or anyone one who says that they cant afford a vent hood for their shop. this ghetto ass setup consists of three sheets(4x8) alluminum lined insulation board at $12 bucks each, and 2 big ass rolls of duct tape at $7. so the whole thing winds up costing $50. the back wall is slanted to increase airflow and it has a standard trapezoidal hood, that is infact all held together with duct tape. i screwed up some wood to hang a floro light inside, and theres 6 screws on each side holding it to the table. all seams are sealed with the duct tape (inside and out). i did spend about $100 on the fan, its a 1500cfm 8in. flow pro that i orderded online somewhere. the standard attic vent fan from home depot(or wherever) is 14 in. and runs 1500cfm also, but that one wouldnt fit in my tiny basement window. anyway, so there you go...

My old shop - It's a 12x12 shed behind my old house when I was roommates with Hel in OlyWa. By the time we left, this place was falling apart, and has since been demolished. This shed is where I did most of my progressing in glass...ahhh...the memories.
Shop Mascot

Shop Mascot

(NoDFX)
Rokki is the shop mascot, since he's not allowed in the shop due to fuming and glass dust (and the possibility of him becoming one big freaking fire ball...), we've assigned him to guarding my case of glass. Here he is at his post, with his eyes on the prize. Good Job Rokki!!! (He works for Scooby Snacks...lol)
