slinger's stop to buttermilk

slinger's stop to buttermilk

(SteveGelb)
Slinger stopped by buttermilk to get some interveiws with a few people for his documetary and Kris from Cannibis Culture was doing stills lighting and sound. I figured I'd take a couple shots of the production, we had a great time and everything went smoothly. Big thanks to Sling and Kris, It was nice to see you again

I started working boro with a Nortel Major and made enough money to upgrade to a GTT MIRAGE. I love this torchand it was worth every second of the agonizing wait. Although i am still adapting to the learning curve of the triple mix system, I am doing my best.
Delta Mag Footpedal

Delta Mag Footpedal

(Marcel)
Heres a couple pictures of a prototype footpedal I built for Jason's Mag. With the regulators, high volume manifod, huge solenoids on the outers, and 3/8 O2 feed all the torches run at FULL capacity with no interference between stages. Enjoy...

A Piece of Glassblowing History

A Piece of Glassblowing History

(Sercksglass)
I picked this lathe up a couple of years ago. It was designed by N.A.S.A. and Heathway with special help from Homer Hoyt(Scientific glass wizard and Boro Art pioneer) It was designed specificly to make specialty parts for early space travel. It weighs over 2 thousand pounds. I had to rent a forklift to pick it up and drop it at my house. This is one of 4 lathes like this to be built. For most of this lathes life it was run on 24 hour shifts by glassblowers for almost 20 years and still runs like a champ and came with some unique features.

(Hoopinhippy)
Added a shelf off the front of my bench. Makes it comfy if I sit down and now I can stack a couple graphite plates in front of my torch and they can heat up marbles. Never thought to do a two level table but I love it soooo much now.

Studio additions and re-builds

Studio additions and re-builds

(SteveGelb)
As three new permanent glass workers have arrived at the studio this spring we added a new room with an 18ft. bench, heres some pics of early construction. Its good to have JEH back in I-town and working at the studio, I cant wait to collab! That brings the studio total to seven people...plus some students; tons o' fun! Frito and Alix's bench is next to be destroyed and re-designed, hopefully next week. If your near Ithaca this summer, stop by and say hello.

Pipes in events/pipe events

I have only been to a few glass events, but I have been lucky enough to see some great pipe are in events related to pipes and other events where pipes just snuck in-welcome or not!!!

2005- hamm made a giant crazy spoon on the lathe, getting cut off very close to the end. He didnt get to finish the mouthpiece and was disqualified from the competition- much to the dismay of all the spectators!

... and marbleslinger made a hammer(pipe by slinger) and a glass hammer (pakoh) and smashed the two together and melted it. This project WAS accepted into the competition and even won a prize!! It was quite exciting, but I didn't get any pictures. look at chris carlson's gallery for a bunch of good ones.
Also, nate-dizz made some cool pieces with sherlock shaped components inside them-in which his pendant took first prize for wearables!

If you'd like to see more of my events pictures, check out my glassartists gallery- (winters-glass)

2006-chicago(fist annual)
well, having attended three egs flame-offs, I wasn't aware pipes were allowed in this competition. I was pleasantly surprised, but I didn't come prepared to make a pipe- maybe this year. Lisa (of lisa's peices) made a giraffe-neck pipe that won first prize!! Roze (who works so hard to organize this event) made a really cool lizard pipe. There was a table for selling our art, and there were some cool pipes on it!

For more pictures of this event, check out my glassartists page. (winters-glass)

champs!

champs!

(Corn-cobPiper)
This february('07) was my first trip to a champs show. It's about time-considering I have been making pipes for almost 10 years now!! I was blown away by tons of cool stuff I saw. On a side trip, I had the awesome opportunity to go to Still Smokin' ( a las vegas head shop-the best actually) with Lisa (of lisa's pieces) to watch her work on finishing a sick-ass full figured giraffe pipe! We were there for hours, but it was awesome to chill there because they have massage chairs and crazy dj's-and of course, some awesome glass to look at! Anyway, champs was really inspiring in lots of ways. I think I will go again soon!

I ran out of sheet metal....always more to do.I took the sides of the hoods off this gives me more room to manipulate pieces and gives me more light as well.
